You have become the person everyone comes to. Now you have people you can go to.

Operam Academy ALUMNI is a free community open to more than 8,000 certified IM Practitioners worldwide. Everyone has done the same work you have, so the conversation starts further along.

What happens next

Once you are certified as an IM Practitioner you currently have two options. Carry on to the IM Professional Pathway, or go back to work as the person who understands ISO 19650.

The questions that matter are the ones you cannot look up. What do I do when there is no CDE provided. How do I assess capability and capacity. What do I include in a detailed responsibility matrix.

Never stop learning

What comes with membership.

Discussion rooms. The problem you are facing has probably been solved by someone else already. Learn from other practitioners who have been there and got the T-shirt.

The Practitioner's Guide. A summary of the key learning points from every course in the IM Practitioner Track, in one document. One of the most requested things we have ever been asked for, and it is yours to download free when you join.

ALUMNI events. The community meets twice a year, in October and April, including an update from Paul, regional updates from around the world, and presentations from ALUMNI members.

Member directory. Find the other practitioners in your organisation or your part of the world, so you are no longer the only one who understands how this works. You choose whether to appear in it.

The annual ALUMNI Report. See how information management is practised around the world, with evidence you can take to your leadership. The first report sets the global baseline, and every one after it shows what has changed.

Shaped by its members

The ALUMNI Committee is made up of members, appointed to represent you and shape what the community becomes. Joining ALUMNI does not mean joining the committee. The initial portfolios are:

ALUMNI Events

ALUMNI Discussion Rooms

Member Voice and Recognition

Welcome and Connection

ALUMNI Report

The committee will review these as the community grows.

ALUMNI Events

The community meets twice a year, in October and April. The first ALUMNI event took place on Wednesday 14 October 2026, when members met the committee and heard an update from Paul and regional updates from around the world. The recording and a summary will be available to members on the community platform.

Next event: Wednesday 14 April 2027, 07:00 UTC. Members register on the community platform.

Questions people ask

Is it really free?

Yes, and it always will be.

In 2027 we will open a paid subscription, Operam Academy NETWORK, for members who want regular contact with people facing the same challenges. It is an additive layer for those who want more involvement, not a better class of membership. Members who do not take it lose nothing.

What happens if I change jobs, or my employer stops paying for training?

Nothing. Your certification is yours and so is your membership. It follows you rather than your employer, so a job move, a redundancy or a training budget cut does not affect it.

Which email address do I use?

The one on your account for the Operam Academy Learning Platform. That is the record the check runs against. If it does not find you, try another address you may have used, or contact support and we will match you manually, usually within two working days.

Can I join anonymously?

You choose whether to appear in the member directory. You can stay private and still take part in everything else.

How is this different from regional and industry groups?

It is not trying to be one, and it is not competing with them. Those groups bring together people with a mix of backgrounds and a mix of understanding, and that is their strength. ALUMNI brings together people who share one understanding, so the learning between them starts further along. Join both.

Why do I need to be certified to join?

Because shared understanding is the whole point. Everyone here has done the same work and speaks about information management the same way, which is what makes the conversations worth having.

You don’t have to work it out on your own

You have the certification. You have the questions. What you have not had is anyone to ask.

Two minutes, free, and you are in. Practitioners from across the world have already joined.

Already have an Operam Academy account? If you think you should be eligible, contact support and we will check your record.

Never had an account? Start with a seven-day free trial of the IM Practitioner Track and have a go at one of the courses. Joining ALUMNI means completing every course in the Track, which needs a licence.
